Enemy Pie

Enemy Pie

Enemy Pie is a children’s book written by Derek Munson and illustrated by Tara Calahan King. It is about a little kid that is having a perfect summer until a kid named Jeremy Ross moved into a house down the street Jeremy Ross was his worst enemy he laughed at him when he struck out at baseball games he didn’t invite him to his trampoline parties even though he invited his best friend Stanley. Jeremy Ross was the one and only person on his enemy list. His dad knew lots about enemy’s so he went over to his dad and asked him his dad said that when he was little he had had lots of enemies and the quickest way to get rid of them was with enemy pie the recipe was so secret that his dad couldn’t even tell him what was in it so he went outside and grabbed weeds to put into the pie but when he did his dad just shook his head so he went outside again and grabbed some earthworms his dad shook his head again so he went outside and started shooting hoops. When the pie was ready he went inside and asked why it smelled so good shouldn’t it smell bad he said. No said his father said because if it smells bad your enemy won’t eat it so we need it to smell good. The only thing you need to do for the enemy pie to work is spend a whole day with your enemy. So he did the next morning he walked up to Jeremy Ross’s house and asks him if he wants to play he says yes so they go outside and they spend the whole day together at the end of the day he asks Jeremy Ross to come to his house for dinner Jeremy says yes so they go to his house were dinner is already ready and they have mac and cheese when they finish up their mac and cheese the dad brings the pie and cuts everybody a huge slice and puts a scoop of ice cream on top while he is serving the pie the son tells him not to give Jeremy a slice that he was his friend but the dad didn’t listen so before Jeremy starting eating the pie he yelled stop don’t eat the pie why Jeremy asks because it is poisoned then why is your dad already halfway through his pie he looked at his dad and it was true his dad had almost finished the pie. I think that this book teaches a lot about enemies and making friends because it shows that in one day your best enemy can become your best friend.
