Stolen Words

Stolen Words

Stolen Words is a childrens book by Melanie Florence and illustrated by Gabrielle Grimard. The book is about a First Nations grandpa who got sent to  residential school when he was little and he forgot how to speak Cree. One day his granddaughter comes home from school and asks his grandpa how to say grandpa in Cree. The grandpa says he doesn’t know so the next day when the girl returns from school she takes out a book from her backpack and says tanisi, nimoson then she gives the book to his grandpa and they walk home. I think that this book sends a really strong message to the people that read it. I also think that this book explains the harsh reality of life and that even if life looks happy on the outside on the inside sometimes it can be really cruel.

Hey little Ant

                Hey Little Ant
The picture book we read is called Hey Little ant it is written by Philip and Hannah Hoose it was illustrated by Debbie Tilley. It is a children’s book for kids from 4-8 years old. It is about a kid that sees an ant and threatens to kill it but the ant talks back to him and tries to persuade the kid to not step on him. I think the message of this story is by doing one little bad thing like killing an ant it can have a huge impact because that ant might be taking food to his starving family or feeding kids that will die if they don’t eat. I would rate this book really good because it has a strong message that it tells through an interesting story
